I received the following e-mail recently from Jaki Porter

Earlier this
year we helped an injured dog in Grenada and after the GSPCA let us down, had to find a home for him. At the eleventh hour
we met a local hotel gardener who took "Lucky" into her flock of abandoned dogs. She looks after them all by selling
extra plants and flowers she grows at home to pay for the food and vets bills, doing her best for them with very limited resources.
Margaret's home was badly damaged in hurricane Ivan in 04, and among the damage was the destruction of the wall
surrounding her yard, so the dogs have to remain shut in kennels while she's at work, which of course creates other problems,
vet bills etc etc.
She is trying so hard to do the best for the dogs, and as a fellow animal-lover, I want to
help her to re-build the wall & give the dogs a better life. We have spoken to a local builder and started buying materials,
but her home is on very steep, rocky ground, and the wall needs to be "hurricane-resistant" this time. Unfortunately
the cost of building materials in Grenada is more expensive than it is here, and inflation is increasing rapidly since the
demise of Exel Airlines.
I'm hoping that if other dog-lovers can find literally £5-£10 to swell
the coffers, we could get the job done before the hurricane season and those dogs can get out and play! I've made
a website and there is a donate button at www.margaretsdogs.org or you can send cheques made out to J. Porter to Bridge Cottage, Old Malden Lane, Worcester Park, Surrey KT4 7PU.
It is not my intention to use the Blog to ask members to support different causes this will be “a one
off”. Jaki and her husband Alan have been members of the IWSA for many years and although she is not on the committee,
she is the IWSA Webmaster, this entails a lot of work which she does at no cost to the Association.
